On Saturday morning, West Ham United officially confirmed that Ricardo Vaz Te had left the club by mutual consent.
The news was not surprising given that the 28-year-old had featured so rarely in what is proving to be an outstanding campaign for Sam Allardyce’s side, but it still clearly affected a number of West Ham fans given the reaction on social media.
Vaz Te later tweeted to confirm that he would continue his playing career with Turkish side Akhisar Belediyespor, but whatever the future has in store for him, he will always be in the hearts of West Ham fans – something that cannot be said of all players who bid farewell to their clubs.
Vaz Te made 61 appearances for West Ham, scoring 19 goals and providing six assists in that time, but one strike in particular means he will always be a hero at Upton Park.
The Portuguese winger netted a late winner for West Ham in the 2012 play-off final against Blackpool and for that reason, his memory will live on at the club long after his departure.
After the announcement we took to Twitter to see what West Ham fans thought of the news and you can read a selection of what we found below:
As well as the obvious goal , that Brighton hat trick really sticks in the mind . Always have a place in our hearts. Good luck son #VazTe— West Ham Geezer (@WHUFCGeezer) January 17, 2015
With Zarate, Vaz Te and Morrison all leaving this window, surely that's freed up some wages to bring someone in?— ChelmoHammer (@ChelmoHammer) January 17, 2015
Vaz Te will never be forgotten. That goal to get us up and all the goals in the championship. He was a brilliant signing for us. Good luck!— COYI (@WesthamDan16) January 17, 2015
