According to the report, the Polish youngster underwent a medical yesterday ahead of a reported £2 million switch to the Gunners from Legia Warsaw.
At just 17-years-old, many expect Bielik to link up with the Gunners’ academy side but the paper report Wenger has decided that he’s ready to go straight in to consideration for the first-team squad on Sunday, should the deal be sealed by then.
He said: "He's a defensive midfielder, 6ft 2ins, he has a good energy level and technical level. Also, it's a gamble. But on what we saw it's worth taking" Wenger was quoted as saying.
"It's less than £2m. It's an awful lot of money for a player if he doesn't succeed. If he does succeed then it's cheap. Yes (he will go into first team squad)."
Many observers feel that a new defensive midfield signing this January was a necessity for the North Londoners, but not many expected the signing of Bielik.
Given his age and evident lack of experience, one can only suggest that he has been brought in based on his potential and not his current ability.
It begs the question on whether Wenger will go out and bring in an established midfielder, and given their precarious position in the Premier League, it would be a big gamble if the Frenchman decides against it.
The Emirates outfit travel to Manchester City looking at avenge last season's entertaining 6-3 defeat, though as a result of injuries they may have to do it with a makeshift back four.
