Arsenal and Everton have both been linked with signing Almeria's Edgar, reportedly even quicker than former Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

Arsenal and Everton have sent scouts to watch Almeria winger Edgar Mendez, report The Sun.

The paper write: "Atletico Madrid and Sevilla both want the winger who has been clocked as faster than Real Madrid's Gareth Bale."

Mendez, most commonly known simply as Edgar, is 23-years-old and began his career in Real Madrid's academy.

He is playing in La Liga this season for the first time in his career, and has impressed for the relegation battlers.

Almeria are one place above the drop zone, and any chance of them hanging onto the winger next season could depend on survival.

Arsenal may have an advantage in their pursuit of Edgar, for they have loanee Wellington Silva currently playing alongside him.

Not only will they have the Brazilian able to help them out, they will have a certain amount of goodwill from the Spanish side too.

Described by the paper as a winger, Edgar is jsut as comfortable playing a central attacking midfield role. The Sun go onto report Edgar could be available for as little as £2 million.

He has four goals in 18 appearances this season in all competitions.
