Photos: New Sunderland signing Jermain Defoe against the club for Tottenham Hotspur

The England international is set to face Tottenham for his new club this afternoon.

Yesterday saw Sunderland complete a deal to bring Jermain Defoe back to the Premier League from his spell in Canada with MLS side Toronto FC.

The move comes less than a year after he left Tottenham for Ontario in a £6 million move and wouldn't you know it, Defoe's first game back in the Premier League could be against Tottenham this afternoon.

Defoe played for Tottenham in two separate spells, totalling eight years at White Hart Lane.

But how did he get on against Sunderland. With Defoe set to feature for The Black Cats against his former club, it would be interesting to see how he has performed when the roles have been reversed.

The answer? Not very well as it happens.

In fact Sunderland are one of the only clubs Defoe has not scored a Premier League goal against in a Tottenham shirt.

He netted twice for Portsmouth in two separate games in 2008 while he also netted for West Ham way back in 2003.

But never in a Tottenham shirt. Today he will be hoping to get some playing time and score v Tottenham for Sunderland, something he never managed the other way around.
