Lewis Holtby has undergone a successful operation on a broken collarbone.
The 24-year-old is on loan at Bundesliga side Hamburg, who have been struggling for form this season.
German channel Sport1 were one of many to report how he sustained a serious injury in a friendly game against Eintracht Frankfurt during a training camp in Dubai.
Holtby suffered a broken collarbone after colliding with an opponent, and will be out for around three months.
He confirmed an operation, posting a photo onto social media from his hospital bed, commenting that he is already thinking positively.
The midfielder is on a season long loan from Premier League side Tottenham, having been allowed to leave by head coach Mauricio Pochettino shortly before the summer transfer deadline.
Holtby has made 13 Bundesliga starts this season for Hamburg, but has not scored a goal so far and has only one assist to his name.
With Hamburg only two points above the bottom placed side in the league, his injury is a most unwelcome blow for the club.
