Michael Owen comments on Newcastle United v Southampton

Michael Owen looks ahead to today’s Premier League clash between Newcastle United and Southampton at St. James’ Park.

Michael Owen has written on Betvictor.com that he does not expect too many goals in today’s Premier League clash between Newcastle United and Southampton.

The former Manchester United and Liverpool striker anticipates a tight game at St. James’ Park.

The Saints march on and their 1-0 wins at Old Trafford and Portman Road this week showed they are resilient as well as talented,” the 35-year-old wrote on Betvictor.com.

“They are beginning to pick up some injuries to key players with Victor Wanyama joining Morgan Schneiderlin on the sidelines, however, and I can see another game with few goals at St James’s Park at the weekend.”

Many football followers will agree with former Newcastle striker Owen; there may not be too many goals in today’s game at St. James’ Park.

Southampton have been superb defensively, and one suspects that Ronald Koeman’s side will make it tough for Newcastle to break them down.

The Saints have conceded just one goal in all competitions in the New Year and will head into today’s match on the back of two successive wins.

Perhaps a single goal could prove to be the difference between the two teams today. Newcastle are not in great form at the moment, but if the Magpies take an early lead, then they could well go on and pick up all three points.

Nevertheless, Southampton will be favourites to win today.
