Liverpool continued their impressive recent run of form as they overcame Aston Villa 2-0 on Saturday.
Fabio Borini opened the scoring for Brendan Rodgers’ side with 24 minutes on the clock and fellow front-man Rickie Lambert doubled the Reds’ advantage with 11 minutes of normal-time to play.
The latest win followed hot on the heels of Liverpool’s 1-0 victory against Sunderland and 2015 is already looking far brighter than some feared given the Reds’ previous struggles.
While Borini and Lambert sealed the win, much of the talk on social media during and after the game was about the contribution of Brazilian play-maker Philippe Coutinho.
The 22-year-old has made 27 appearances for Liverpool this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists in that time. But for all his talent there were times against Villa when Coutinho did not prove effective enough on Saturday.
Given the talent at Anfield that is something he will have to work on if he wants to remain a regular feature of Rodgers’ starting line-up.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what some Liverpool fans thought of the player’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
#Coutinho is an enigma. So brilliant at times and then goes off to never never land for 10s of minutes. Hard to reconcile.— Ryan Roland (@Ryanroland) January 17, 2015
Coutinho is good and all but he needs to know when to release the damn ball.— Osey Anolu (@OseyAnolu) January 17, 2015
