The 23-year-old Leeds defender made a rare appearance at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.
So Scott Wootton is alive - and playing football for Leeds United.
After a recent loan spell at Rotherham, during which the defender impressed, Neil Redfearn raised a few eyebrows by starting Wootton at right-back against Birmingham. In the end, Leeds drew 1-1 with Gary Rowett's side, after Luke Murphy proved a late hero by equalising in the 86th minute...
As for Wootton himself, the 23-year-old was the subject of praise from some Leeds fans for his display against Birmingham. The future is unclear for the defender - will he stay or will he return to Rotherham?
But he certainly produced a performance that merits another chance, at least in the short term, according to some supporters. There was, naturally, still plenty of criticism of the Leeds man on Twitter after the game, although a number of voices seemed to be in agreement that Wootton looked solid during the Birmingham draw.
On the whole, Leeds delivered an encouraging performance against Rowett's men. The fact remains, however, that Redfearn's side are now eight games in all competitions (seven in the league) without a win - and the wait goes on. Thanks to goal difference, the Yorkshire side have jumped up to 20th in the Championship table and, ironically, Rotherham are the side to suffer.
Here, meanwhile, is the best Twitter reaction to Wootton's performance v Birmingham, as the 23-year-old did the best he could when called upon at such a late hour...
Anyone else think wootton had a good game today? #lufc— Gareth Beales (@GarethBeales) January 17, 2015
Have to give credit to Wootton who was solid today and Taylor looks a prospect. Just need to survive this season #lufc— markcally (@markcally8) January 17, 2015
Best players for me today were Murphy and Cook. Morison and Wootton did good as well! #lufc just need to put away free shots— Brad (@BradleyLUFC) January 17, 2015
Murphy looked a different player, back to his best (which was so long ago I can't recall) Wootton solid at RB & useful for set pieces #lufc— Raymond Hankin (@raymondhankin) January 17, 2015
@BowlesyM Outstanding today. Top midfield performance. Similar performance from Morison. Wootton solid. Cooper stupid.— AP (@1988AMP) January 17, 2015
Wootton & Taylor were solid too. Taylor got forward well in the last 20. Decent left peg.— Guysley (@Guysley_) January 17, 2015
