Jermain Defoe clinched a move to Sunderland this week, and will go straight into the matchday squad.
He will be in familiar surroundings at White Hart Lane for his potential debut, for Defoe is Tottenham's highest European goalscorer of all time.
He said: “It’s going to be a tough game and I was at Tottenham for ten years and it is a great club, but there has been a lot of changes and a lot of new players there.
“I believe that if we go there with good organisation and create and take our chances then we can win the game.”
The former England international was training with Tottenham as recently as last week, giving him an increased familiarity with this week's opponents.
Defoe signed from MLS side FC Toronto with Jozy Altidore going in the other direction, with both players unsettled in their respective divisions.
Sunderland lost 5-1 at White Hart Lane last season and are in poor form. Defoe's presence gives them fresh energy, and if his comments are anything to go by, he can provide an air of confidence Sunderland will need if they are to get anything out of the game.
