Denmark international playmaker Eriksen has been in impressive form so far this season and is one of the best players for Spurs.
The 22-year-old proved to be the match-winner for Tottenham on Saturday, as they got the better of Sunderland 2-1 at White Hart Lane in the Premier League.
Eriksen scored the third goal of the match in the 88th minute. The former Ajax star has now scored a winning goal in the last two minutes of a game for Tottenham three times this season - against Hull City, Swansea City and now Sunderland.
Vertonghen was impressed with the Dane’s display and told Spurs TV: “I'm happy for Eriksen. He’s a hard worker and he deserves it.”
Eriksen was not at his best against Sunderland, but he still finished the game as one of the most influential players on the pitch at White Hart Lane.
The youngster took six shots, had a pass accuracy of 83%, created six chances, put in 11 crosses, and attempted two take-ons.
Victory over Sunderland has lifted Tottenham above North London rivals Arsenal and into fifth place in the Premier League table for the time being.
There is a long way to go this season and Spurs will have to fight for a top-four finish, but with Eriksen in brilliant form and scoring late winners, the fans have every reason to feel optimistic.
