Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen has told Spurs TV that his side “deserved” to win against Sunderland today.
North London outfit Tottenham returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over the Black Cats at White Hart Lane.
Jan Vertonghen's deflected shot gave Spurs the lead as early as the third minute, but Sebastian Larsson restored parity for visiting Sunderland just past the half-hour mark.
Tottenham continued to press on for the winner as the match progressed and eventually found it in the 88th minute through Eriksen.
The Denmark international was delighted with the last-gasp victory and believes that Spurs have regained their momentum.
“We deserved to win for the chances we created,” the 22-year-old told Spurs TV. “I’m glad after a few shots one of mine went in. Palace was an off day. Apart from that, we’re on a great run and we all believe in ourselves.”
Tottenham’s seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions came to an end last weekend they slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the London derby.
However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side bounced back on Wednesday with a 4-2 home success over Burnley in an FA Cup third-round reply.
The win against Sunderland certainly keeps Spurs on track for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
With the Tottenham players bursting with confidence at the moment, there is every reason for the fans to believe that this season they will break into the top four.
