James Tomkins will be the man required to step up and be the rock at the heart of West Ham United's defence if Winston Reid departs this summer.
Reid is set to leave the Boleyn Ground this summer with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur amongst the interested parties, according to the Daily Mail,
His possible departure would leave a massive void for the Hammers to fill, but Tomkins could be the man to step up to the plate.
Reid has commanded the back line this season, with his performances being a major reason behind their successful start, but Tomkins has all the ability to thrive with increased responsibility.
The 25-year-old has progressed hugely in recent times and it is only a surprise that his form has not been recognised by England boss Roy Hodgson to date.
An aerial presence, Tomkins is also comfortable with the ball at his feet and he is rarely beaten in one-on-one situations.
He has all the makings of a top Premier League centre-back and Reid's departure, and the increased responsibility that would come with it, may be just the thing to push him on to fulfil his vast potential.
