Sunderland fans react on Twitter to Defoe's signing

Sunderland fans have been pleased by the club's addition of Jermain Defoe.

Sunderland fans have largely been pleased by the club's signing of Jermain Defoe, which went through today.

The experienced forward was brought in from FC Toronto to increase their attacking threat for the second half of the season and most Black Cats supporters seem to believe he will have the desired effect.

Sunderland have scored just 18 goals in 21 Premier League matches to date, but the addition of a clinical finisher is what Gus Poyet hopes will push the side on.

Defoe has previously played for the likes of West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth and he has always had a happy knack of hitting the back of the net.

At 32 years old, Defoe is now heading into the twilight of his career, but most fans of the North East outfit feel he is an impressive addition, even if it is only a short-term fix.

Sunderland are only one point above the drop zone and they need their new front man to hit the ground running if they are to start climbing the table.

Defoe is set to go straight into the Black Cats' squad for their game against Tottenham at White Hart Lane tomorrow.

Here is the best reaction from Sunderland fans to Defoe's arrival on social media site Twitter.
