Bayern Munich talisman Thomas Muller was quoted as saying by Sky Sports on Thursday afternoon that the links to Manchester United were purely newspaper speculation.
According to the Express, United had seen a bid of £45 million rejected for the German goalscorer, who when asked about it at a press conference in Doha dismissed knowledge of any bid.
‘’I think that talk is only for the newspapers,’’ Muller was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
‘’Last summer I extended my contract until 2019. I can’t imagine that someone will try to make an offer. I don’t think that would work.’’
The speculation between United and Muller likely stems from a comment made by the German just before the World Cup started.
In an interview with Sport Bild, as quoted by ESPN, the exciting forward admitted at the time that he had a ‘’special relationship’’ with the current United boss and that he would be ever-grateful over the chance he gave him when he first broke into the Bayern Munich team from the academy.
The 25-year-old, who has scored 11 goals in 23 games in all competitions this season, is renowned as one of the best footballers in the world at the moment and after helping Germany and Bayern to glory last season, very few people can disagree.
For that reason, along with the length of his contract, it’s implausible that Bayern would sell one of their top players to United without the Red Devils an eye-watering sum, especially midway through the season.
