Report: Leeds and Watford face further competition for Italian goalkeeper

Catania fans celebrating

Francesco Bardi is reportedly wanted by Serie B club Catania.

The Italian Under-21 international is currently on loan at Chievo from Internazionale, but his parent club are looking to send him elsewhere.

As reported by TMW earlier this week, Championship sides Leeds United and Watford are said to be tracking the young stopper ahead of a January loan move, but the same media outlet has now suggested that they will face competition from Serie B club Catania.

Bardi has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Chievo this term, conceding 16 goals in the process, and he is considered as one of the best young goalkeepers in Italy. Having won 30 Italian Under-21 caps, he is undoubtedly the number one stopper choice for the 2015 European Under-21 Championships being held this summer, and it is likely he will be making an impact on the senior international team int he future.

The first report indicated that Inter would be keen on seeing him remain in Italy ahead of a move abroad, especially for a spell as short as six-months - making the Catania switch seem most plausible. It now appears that Leeds and Watford will have to look elsewhere should they intend to secure a goalkeeper in the January transfer window.

The Whites have also been linked with a move for 29-year-old Empoli ‘keeper Davide Bassi, whose contract expires this summer, as per TMW.
