Ayoze Perez has been voted as Newcastle United’s Player of the Month for December, according to a statement on the club's official website.
The 21-year-old forward was in impressive form last month and continued to be an important player of the team.
During the month of December, Perez scored against Arsenal (4-1 away defeat) and Everton (3-2 home win) in the Premier League.
"I would like to thank all of the people who voted for me for the Player of the Month,” the youngster told Newcastle’s official website.
"It's great that I managed to get this award and I'm very pleased that I have been awarded the trophy.”
Perez clinched the prestigious award ahead of Papiss Cisse and Moussa Sissoko, and he will now be hoping to step up his game this month.
Newcastle are struggling for points in the league at the moment and have not won a single competitive game in the New Year.
Heading into Saturday’s Premier League clash against Southampton at St. James’ Park, the Magpies find themselves 10th in the standings with 27 points from 21 matches.
Perez, who has scored five goals and created 13 chances in 20 Premier League appearances so far this season, will play a key role against the Saints.
Winning against a high-flying Southampton side will not be easy for Newcastle, but playing at home will certainly give them an advantage.
