Michael Owen predicts Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland

Michael Owen looks ahead to Saturday’s Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland at White Hart Lane.

Michael Owen has backed Tottenham Hotspur to defeat Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday on Betvictor.com.

The former Manchester United and Liverpool striker believes that Spurs will have too much for their visitors at White Hart Lane.

“Both sides come into the game on the back of a defeat in the PL last weekend but the hosts came from two goals down in an FA Cup 3rd Round replay against Burnley earlier in the week and I think they can get back to winning ways in the league given I felt the Black Cats were ordinary, at best, against Liverpool at the Stadium of Light,” the 35-year-old wrote on Betvictor.com.

“Spurs are unbeaten in their last nine PL games against Sunderland and in Harry Kane (six in his last 6 PL games for Spurs) they have another young English striker who could go to the very top of the game.”

Many football followers will back Owen’s prediction, despite Tottenham suffering a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in the London derby at Selhurst Park in the league last weekend.

It was Spurs’ first loss in eight games, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side bounced back in style with a 4-2 victory over Burnley at home in an FA Cup third-round replay on Wednesday.

Winning against Sunderland even at home will not be easy for the North London outfit, but they certainly have the better team with better quality players.

And that will show.

Gus Poyet’s Sunderland side will probably be happy with a draw in North London, but Spurs will know that they can get an advantage over arch-rivals Arsenal if they win on Saturday.

Arsenal are in action against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, which means that win for Tottenham will increase pressure on Arsene Wenger’s side in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
