Defoe, who was announced as a Sunderland player earlier today, played with Dawson earlier in his career at Tottenham Hotspur and he has obviously left a lasting impression on the experienced centre-back.
“I would have loved to have seen Jermain [Defoe] at Hull City,” he said.
“I think any team that has Jermain in it is going to be better. He’s a goalscorer. He’s done it for years and years in the Premier League and for Sunderland, if it is nearly done, getting him is a big signing for them.”
The Tigers have struggled to find a consistent partnership up front this season and it has been a major reason behind their failure to find form.
Hull are currently in the bottom three and they appear to lack a cutting edge, with Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez both out injured.
Defoe would have certainly added that to their squad, but his arrival at the Stadium of Light has strengthened one of their fellow strugglers instead.
The Black Cats are just one point ahead of Steve Bruce's side as things stand, but they will be hoping that the arrival of the England international can fire them up the table.
