The summer signing from Sporting Lisbon is a former team-mate of Veron at Estudiantes.
In a question and answer session published on the official Manchester United website, he stated:
"I always say my idol was Juan Sebastian Veron and then I got the chance to play alongside him in Estudiantes, which was huge for me. On the pitch he was incredible, in the way that he treated us and how he taught us a lot - but also off it too. He was like a father to us as we were still very young, he would always be giving us advice and showing us stuff both about the game and about life in general."
Sir Alex Ferguson had a pretty excellent record with his signings, but the odd dud slipped through the net as well. One such player was Veron.
United spent £28.1 million on the Argentine in 2001 to bring him in from Lazio, becoming the British transfer record at the time, according to the BBC. However he was swiftly sold to Chelsea a couple of seasons later for £15 million after struggling to adapt to English football.
His career never truly got back on track after the move to Old Trafford, until he went back to Argentina to join childhood club Estudiantes.
While he was at the club he found himself playing with Rojo for three seasons, before the defender went off to Russia to continue his footballing career in Europe at Spartak Moscow.
Manchester United fans will just hope Rojo leaves a more positive legacy on the club then his idol did.
