Finally, Derby County have closed out a deal to sign Raul Albentosa from SD Eibar in Spain after a week of speculation and plot-twists.
In fact, they have not signed him from Eibar at all, it appears as though he has joined as a free agent.
Derby were first linked with Albentosa over a week ago, and the Daily Mail reported that a £470,000 deal to sign the player was as good as done seven days ago - with the talented defender seemingly on his way from La Liga.
But the deal never seemed to get any nearer to completion, until today.
This morning the Derby Telegraph reported that Albentosa was now a free agent. That came after SD Eibar's official Twitter account claimed that Albentosa had paid off his get-out clause from his contract, in order to facilitate his move to England.
Raúl Albentosa ha abonado hoy la cláusula de rescisión de su contrato y deja de pertenecer a la SD Eibar.— S.D. Eibar (@sd_eibar) January 15, 2015
That clause is said to be a fee in the region of €600,000, according to the Derby Telegraph.
So now that Albentosa has finally secured his long-protracted move he has shown his appreciation for his new club on Twitter, with this welcome message to his new club:
Derby fans will hope he can emulate his excellent La Liga form in the Championship.
