Derby County star Johnny Russell welcomes Stephen Warnock to club, despite 2013 leg break

It seems like all water is under the bridge for the Derby County attacker.

Yesterday saw Derby County complete the signing of Leeds United full-back Stephen Warnock on an 18-month deal for an undisclosed fee.

The Leeds captain's arrival has been welcomed by the Derby players, including one Johnny Russell. The Scottish star told the official Derby County Twitter account yesterday:

The fact that Russell is welcoming the former Leeds captain to Derby is indeed interesting, as many will recall it was the former England international who put Russell out of action at the start of last season.

Derby County were taking on Leeds United in a Championship game at the iPro Stadium on the 5th October 2013, when a challenge between Russell and Warnock saw the Scotsman fracture his fibula.

When the challenge happened the Derby Telegraph ruled he would be out for six weeks and he did not feature again for The Rams until the 28th November.

So don't be surprised if, despite his welcoming demeanour in public, Russell leaves a friendly boot in at training on his new team-mate.
