Arsene Wenger confirms surgery for two stars, Bielik transfer close

Arsene Wenger In Emirates Press Conference 2

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gave an update on player fitness ahead of the huge Premier League game against Manchester City.

Arsene Wenger held his usual Arsenal press conference and has confirmed that two first team stars have undergone surgery, while providing injury updates on a number of others.

"Arteta and Debuchy have had surgery. Ramsey, Ozil and Walcott are available - Gibbs will have a test," said the Frenchman.

"He's (Debuchy) destroyed because he just wants to play."

Debuchy and Arteta have both been ruled out for three months, according to the BBC, with Arteta suffering from an ankle problem while Debuchy dislocated a shoulder.

Wenger also gave an update on the fitness of Danny Welbeck, who remains out of action for another fortnight.

Arsenal have had injuries to contend with regularly this season, but they retain a very large and high quality squad.

The boss had further good news on the matter of Krystain Bielik, who he confirmed is close to officially joining the club from Legia Warsaw.

"He is having a medical today. A fee has been agreed."

On the recent history between Arsenal and Manchester City, Wenger doesn't feel it will have an impact.

"The history will not play a big part. The performance on the day will play the only part."

The boss chose to agree with Manuel Pellegrini on the subject of Alexis Sanchez, with the City boss quoted by the Daily Mail claiming the Chilean was the best player in England.

"He is one of the top performing players in the Premier League. I agree with Pellegrini."

Wenger also took the opportunity to pile praise onto Nacho Monreal, who he said has been one of the club's most consistent players this season.
