For it seemed football had its saviour. For far too long the running of FIFA has made football the laughing stock of the media and those internal bodies that it governs. Under the leadership of Sepp Blatter the beautiful game has been muddied by accusations of corruption and cover-ups and it would appear one football man has had enough, in the form of former Tottenham and Newcastle showman Ginola.
He has declared himself in the running for the FIFA presidency as a rival for Blatter today, but the whole campaign has the smackering of a publicity stunt about it, as it is being pushed forward by a well known betting company who love a football publicity stunt or two.

He made it clear that the possibility of Ginola as the FIFA president seemed unlikely, he even cracked a joke that nobody would allow a Frenchman to be in charge of FIFA and UEFA, where Michel Platini currently holds the reign:
"You will accuse us of having control of world football if he becomes Fifa president and Platini is Uefa president! That has very little chance of happening, let’s be realistic."
Sorry David, but Arsene is actually right on this one.
