Ward-Prowse, Reed and more: Southampton players react on Twitter to Ipswich win

Southampton players took to Twitter on Wednesday night following their 1-0 FA Cup win at Ipswich Town.

Southampton progress to the FA Cup fourth round on Wednesday night after a hard-fought 1-0 win at Ipswich Town in their third round replay.

Ronald Koeman’s side were given a scare when Ipswich’s Stephen Hunt had an early effort ruled out for offside, before Shane Long took advantage of a loose ball to put the Saints ahead on 19 minutes.

There was little to choose between the two sides over the course of the match but, despite Town pressing forward towards the closing stages, the visitors managed to hold onto their narrow advantage.

Southampton’s reward for their victory will be a home tie against Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace in the next round, and manager Koeman was pleased with how his team dealt with a testing game against the Championship promotion hopefuls.

“I think it was a very serious performance tonight,” he told the club’s official website. “It was difficult – a typical English cup game with long balls and battles – but I was pleased with the lads because we show character and that’s very positive.

“I am proud of the team and the players how we showed our character.”

The players seemed just as pleased with the result at the final whistle, with starters on the night Fraser Forster, Harrison Reed, Matt Targett, Ryan Bertrand and James Ward-Prowse all joining their boss on Twitter in the aftermath to react to the win.
