Video: Ex-North London duo Carlos Vela and Giovani dos Santos net in draw

Both forwards got amongst the goals in last night’s Copa del Rey clash between Real Sociedad and Villarreal at Anoeta.

Real Sociedad and Villarreal played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Copa del Rey last night, with two familiar faces for Premier League fans getting amongst the goals.

After Gerard Moreno had given the visitors a 1-0 lead, former Arsenal forward Carlos Vela pulled one back for David Moyes’ men.

The ex-Gunners man was not given much of a chance to play in England, but has an ever-improving reputation in Spain as he consistently scores for Sociedad. His finish, as can be seen in the video below, was the result of clever movement from a corner and a clinical strike.

After the break Villarreal’s chances of progression to the next round were boosted by Giovani Dos Santos scoring their second.

The former Tottenham man, much like his Mexican compatriot, was give few opportunities to play at White Hart Lane but is an important player for the El Madrigal outfit.

Dos Santos made the most of a mix-up in the Sociedad rearguard and coolly slotted home to give his side the advantage once more.

Despite former QPR midfielder Esteban Granero pulling one back for Sociedad to ensure a tense finish, Villarreal progressed through to the next round 3-2 on aggregate.
