A number of Derby fans feel the recall could have been better timed, also questioning whether the move really makes sense.
Granted, there have - as ever - been some mixed responses, with many feeling Ibe was far from the best forward player the Rams possessed. But enough Derby fans have expressed their frustration that Liverpool have cut short what was proving a productive loan spell.
Ibe did well in a Derby shirt, of that there is no doubt. There may be debates about the degree to which he impressed with the Rams but not the fact that he certainly looks a promising player.
Recalling the 19-year-old makes sense from a squad depth perspective for Liverpool - but does it address the issue of his development? Crucially, will Ibe get any game time at Anfield?
Arguably, the Reds could have at least let the youngster stay with Derby for their key clash with Nottingham Forest this weekend. Even from the player's perspective, the experience would have done him good.
The immediacy with which he has been brought back to Liverpool, though, suggests Brendan Rodgers plans to use him straightaway. If not, the angst of some Derby fans is understandable. Here's a selection of what some of them had to say on Twitter after Ibe's recall was announced...
Shocked that Liverpool have taken Ibe back in a transfer window when they could add quality. Can't see him getting much game time. #dcfc— Pete Thompson (@petedthompson) January 15, 2015
