Would the 25-year-old add needed strength in depth to the West Ham defence?
The January Transfer window is of course now open.
That means plenty of teams will be making plenty of moves and one such team is West Ham United.
The club have however been in excellent form. West Ham have exceeded expectation for the season with a series of brilliant performances seeing them challenge for Europe, rather than battle for survival.
Some areas of the field are well stocked. The striking department for instance is already very talented. Perhaps a midfield reinforcement would not go amiss.
But a covering defender would be perfect.
Carl Jenkinson and Aaron Cresswell need proper coverage in the full-back positions, while the future of Winston Reid also remains an issue.
So what West Ham need is a quality defender who can play all three positions with little or no fuss.
Could that player be Crystal Palace stalwart Joel Ward?
A right back by trade he spent much of last season at left-back and has played in the heart of defence at times as well.
Perhaps one of the Premier League's most under-rated players the physically imposing utility man is just the type of player West Ham need to add some depth to their defensive positions.
Getting Palace to depart with him would be difficult. But considering they are in a relegation battle, and West Ham are aiming fir Europe, convincing Ward to switch London clubs would not be such a hard task.
