Southampton defender Toby Alderweireld sends defiant message on Twitter after injury setback

The Belgian picked up a reported hamstring strain against Manchester United at the weekend.

In the summer Southampton were ripped apart by Premier League rivals with the likes of Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert all departing.

Ronald Koeman set about replacing each player one by one. Ryan Bertrand came in for Shaw, Dusan Tadic for Lallana and Graziano Pelle for Lambert.

At the back, Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld came in on loan to help replace the departed Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers.

He has been in terrific form this season and his centre-back partnership with Saints captain Jose Fonte has been one of the best defensive partnerships in the league.

Unfortunately for Southampton, it looks like they are going to be without him for a little while.

The Atletico Madrid owned defender overstretched his hamstring in the weekend win against Manchester United. According to the Daily Mail, it is set to rule him out for up to four weeks.

With Maya Yoshida away on international duty with Japan, Southampton find themselves slightly under-stocked in the centre-back department this month.

Alderweireld has now taken to Twitter to send a defiant message about his injury and recovery, making it clear he was ready to get back to action as soon as possible...
