The Northern Echo has reported that Newcastle United are confident they won’t be given a fresh problem in the shape of Hatem Ben Arfa.
Ben Arfa was thought to have completed a move to French club Nice, but the transfer has hit a snag with the move failing to pass a FIFA rule, which states a player can’t represent more than two clubs (Ben Arfa’s represented Newcastle and Hull) in the same season.
The Echo suggests that the major concern for Newcastle would have been the return of the 27-year-old when he has no future and effectively no place at the club.
However, the club is thought to have protected themselves legally, believing that the attacking star is no longer their property or commodity.
The report also states that Nice are confident they haven’t broken any rules over the situation, which will offer Ben Arfa hope that he can stay with his new side in France, rather than having to endure a difficult few months in England.
Even if he stays within Nice’s setup he won’t be able to play, meaning his career is being put on hold until it’s legal for him to start performing again.
