With Harry Kane benched, last night represented a great opportunity for Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado to step up, put in a blinding performance and force his way back into Mauricio Pochettino’s first team plans.
What happened was that, despite working hard as he always does, Soldado missed one of the best chances he’s ever likely to get to boost his confidence.
With the ball played across to him, he stood four yards out with a perfect chance to bag an important goal.
What happened is that he caught the ball a little too well, sending it onto the cross bar before he fell to his knees in disbelief at the chance he’d just missed.
What made things worse for the Tottenham attacker is that his team were 2-1 down, but fortunately they got out of trouble and eventually went on to win the match 4-2, preventing the need for extra time.
