Former Arsenal star Paul Merson believes Tottenham will beat Sunderland this weekend, making his prediction to SkySports.
He told the website he feels Tottenham will win 2-0, having predicted a week ago they would draw with Crystal Palace.
Speaking about the clash at White Hart Lane at home to the Black Cats this weekend, he said:
"Believe it or not, I'm going for Spurs! I do fancy Tottenham. They should have got something against Palace really.
"They came back the other night and beat Chelsea before that. I like Kane and I think he will score, especially as you’re not seeing many of the other strikers scoring."
HITC took a look at Merson's overall record of Spurs predictions this season earlier this week, with the pundit predicting week by week that Tottenham would have accrued 26 points this season, a total which would place them outside the Premier League top 10. They currently sit in sixth place with 34 points.
This week's opponents are however not a team in a good run of form. Sunderland have won only one of their last six Premier League games and sit in 16th position, one point above the relegation zone.
Sunderland do however have a semi-decent away record, the 10th best in the league, picking up 11 of their 20 points on their travels.
Tottenham won the same game last season heavily, emerging as 5-1 winners in the April clash, with Emmanuel Adebayor scoring twice, and Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Gylfi Sigurdsson also getting on the scoresheet, after Lee Cattermole had given Gus Poyet's Sunderland side the lead.
