The 16-year-old, who has been labelled the ‘new Zlatan Ibrahimovic’ by some, is a product of the Roma youth academy but recently opted to switch to the Eredivisie side.
When it became common knowledge that the lofty attacker was ready to leave the Stadio Olimpico, a transfer scramble ensued, which has been confirmed by his agent.
The teenager’s representative Stephan Popelier has confessed that both Arsenal and Liverpool were interested in his client, but that he recommended Scamacca to move to PSV to continue his development.
"We told him the truth - Benfica, Liverpool and Arsenal were also after him,” Popelier told Dutch newspaper Quote.
“There you can obviously earn much more, but the chances of you ever breaking through is slight.
“This boy is just sixteen. In two or three years time, he can have a fixed value. You are better to play with PSV and only make the step to a top club abroad if you are really ready.”
PSV are currently top of the Eredivisie table, with Phillip Cocu’s young side impressing with their attacking brand of football.
With most of the squad in their teens or early twenties, Scamacca will hope to break into the senior set-up and excel in the near future.
