Tottenham Hotspur are in the next round of the FA Cup thanks to a 4-2 win against Burnley at White Hart Lane last night.
Goals from Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches and Danny Rose were enough to help Spurs over the line after they quickly went 2-0 down within ten minutes.
Here are five things we learned about them from the performance.
Signs of a slow start
Tottenham looked as though they were going to be blown away in the first ten minutes, before Paulinho’s strike got them back into the game. The defence was asleep and boss Mauricio Pochettino can’t allow the same to happen against better teams.
Plenty of character
Although Spurs started the game slowly, they did show a lot of character to fight back and get the result. It will do their confidence some good heading into the weekend and the boss has time to work on anything he sees as a weakness.
Soldado still struggling
Soldado’s miss from six yards won’t fill his boss with confidence, even though Pochettino was quick to defend the Spaniard after the game. He had an opportunity but couldn’t take it. It’s also important the boss makes sure Soldado’s head doesn’t drop over the next couple of days.
Chiriches’ reaction to scoring shows that he’s still got the passion, anger and fire to perform for the club. There have been links suggesting he can leave Tottenham over the next couple of weeks, but he played professionally and will be pleased.
A more attacking Danny Rose
Danny Rose proved that he could play a more attacking role, further forward on the left hand side. There has been a constant battle between himself and Ben Davies down the left flank this season but the pair worked well together last night.
