West Brom coach explains why Saido Berahino will not be sold

West Bromwich Albion coach Gerry Francis says the club have no intention of parting with reported Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool target Saido Berahino.

Gerry Francis has joined the coaching team at West Bromwich Albion and told Sky Sports that the club have no intention of selling Saido Berahino during the January transfer window.

The Independent is among those to have suggested that the in-form forward is generating interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

It is easy to understand why admiring glances are being shot in his direction.

A productive campaign for the 21-year-old has delivered 14 goals in all competitions, with nine of those coming in the Premier League.

Berahino has also forced his way into the senior England squad, and it is a combination of all these factors which make him indispensible in the eyes of the Baggies.

Francis told Sky Sports News HQ on Wednesday, while also discussing his post under Tony Pulis at The Hawthorns: “We’re talking about goalscorers here, and obviously he’s scored nine goals for us already and done really well. He’s been in good form recently and scored the winner against Hull.

“You’re not going to want to lose your main goalscorer. Certainly we’ll be looking to add to the squad in that department rather than lose someone.”

Berahino has attempted to steer clear of the transfer talk, telling the Birmingham Mail: “Obviously I have big ambitions but at the moment I’m a West Brom player, I’m contributing goals so I’m happy.”

He is, however, likely to continue generating speculation for as long as he is impressing on the field.

West Brom will also be aware of that fact and will be hoping to reach the end of the winter window with a prized asset still on their books.
