Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has told the Chronicle how he feels Siem de Jong is similar to Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas.
He has also detailed how he feels the team will get stronger as injured players return.
Newcastle have a few injuries in problematic positions at the moment, but the Chronicle has revealed a boost for the club, with the news that long term absentee Gabriel Obertan is due to return in March.
“The Premier League is so tight that if we go on one of those runs like we went on in November, we can be right up there with the top teams in no time,” Krul told the Chronicle.
“Gabriel Obertan is running on the pitch and Siem de Jong is getting closer too. If we can get those players back, it’ll make a difference.”
“Siem can bring a bit of quality in the final third. He’s a great finisher - He’s a little bit like Cesc Fabregas in that respect.”
Any player who can sit in the middle of the team and control the pace of a side’s attacking play is worth their weight in gold.
De Jong has featured in the Premier League just twice for Newcastle this season and it could well feel like the side getting a new player when he returns from a thigh problem.
Obertan’s return is also significant because he can be a high impact player for Newcastle down either side of midfield.
His pace and ability to push defenders onto the back foot is something, which could make the difference for the team heading into a difficult final couple of months, when he’s back in action.
Fingers crossed for the team that they suffer no further injury setbacks or new problems.
