Everton defender Leighton Baines is one of the best in the business in terms of Premier League assists.
In fact, he’s got more assists than any other defender in the history of the Premier League.
The main reason is because Baines’ delivery from set pieces such as corners and free kicks is extremely effective and makes it easier for the Toffees’ main attacking players to score.
Baines has 45 assists so far in his Premier League career, which is more than former Chelsea full-back Graeme Le Saux and substantially more than former Everton defender Andy Hinchcliffe and Leeds United legend Ian Harte.
It’s difficult to predict where Baines is going to draw the line and let other players catch up because at 30-years-old he’s got several years ahead of him, with a contract which ties him to Everton until at least 2019.
He may not be as quick or agile by 2019, but there’s no reason the quality of his set pieces won’t be just as effective.
