Report: Alan Pardew wants to sign ex-Newcastle United star for Crystal Palace

Jose Enrique Newcastle

Alan Pardew is linked with signing Jose Enrique of Liverpool for Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace have been linked with signing Jose Enrique from Liverpool, by The Telegraph.

The paper report Pardew has asked if Liverpool are willing to loan the Spaniard out for the rest of the season.

Enrique played for Palace manager Alan Pardew's former club Newcastle United between 2007 and 2011.

He was sold by Pardew, who was appointed at Newcastle in late 2010.

The 28-year-old has been out of favour at Liverpool, starting two Premier League games only this season, and one as a substitute.

Enrique would become the second Liverpool player to leave for Palace this season, following right-back Martin Kelly who signed in the summer when Tony Pulis was still manager.

There is no guarantee Enrique would be guaranteed a place in the side, and would have to usurp Joel Ward for the left-back spot.

Palace's request for a loan gives Liverpool a dilemma, as a permanent exit would surely be more amenable. Enrique may not be in favour, but while he is at the club he at least provides back-up. Sending him out on loan offers them little in the way of positives, and a wise decision would be to tell Palace to return with a cash offer.
