Arsenal are currently 13 points behind league leaders Chelsea and 11 behind their nearest challengers Manchester City.
However, the £42.5 million German feels his side have to be confident in themselves because of their style of play.
“We have a really strong team. People could see that once again against Stoke (City),” he told the paper.
“So I don't see why we shouldn't finish right at the very top of the table. When you play football you should always have belief in yourself.”
On their day, Arsenal have the creative and attacking players to rip the heart out of any team, but there have been two problems, which have got in their way.
Firstly, they have struggled for consistency, which is partly because of the second problem; injuries to key players such as Ozil, although the German is now back in action.
Manager Arsene Wenger has always maintained that it’s a long season, backing Arsenal to win a title within the next three years, but it’s arguable that the club’s main priority should be getting into the Champions League.
There’s a very competitive group of clubs outside of Chelsea and Manchester City fighting for a top four place and the Gunners have to dominate that group before they can look up to the two main contenders for the title.
