Liverpool media round-up, Gerrard in fitness race, enquiry made for defender

Steven Gerrard takes a question during a pregame press conference

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning.

Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of captain Steven Gerrard, who according to the Daily Mail, faces a race against time to be fit for the first leg of the Reds' League Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Anfield next week.

Gerrard was substituted at half-time during the 1-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, with manager Brendan Rodgers revealing after the game he felt a slight twinge in his hamstring, and he'd subsequently have a scan.

As a result, Gerrard is a doubt for this weekend's Premier League clash with Aston Villa in the West Midlands this weekend.

The report says that no firm decision about Gerrard's fitness has been made, and won't be until later this week.

Left-back Jose Enrique is a transfer target for Crystal Palace according to the Daily Telegraph.

Enrique has had his opportunities limited at Anfield of late with a change of system, which has seen Alberto Moreno and Lazar Markovic both getting the nod ahead of him in the left full-back position.

The report says that Palace manager Alan Pardew will monitor the Spaniard's situation at Anfield, and could possibly make a move for the 28-year-old during the last week of this month's transfer window, to take him to Selhurst Park on loan.
