West Ham and Everton played out a thrilling replay in the third round of the FA Cup at the Boleyn Ground last night, with the Hammers eventually prevailing 9-8 on penalties.

After a goalless first half, where there were chances for either side, the second half came to life when Enner Valencia gave the home side the lead. Aiden McGeady was dismissed for a second bookable offence but it seemed to spark some life into the visitors along with Kevin Mirallas's introduction, who equalised with less than 10 minutes of normal time remaining thanks to a well-taken free kick.

In extra time it was Mirallas who provided the assist for Romelu Lukaku to give the visitors the lead for the first time before Carlton Cole scored with his first touch from off the bench to level things up for the hosts.

The penalty shootout had it's fair share of drama with Stewart Downing missing the opportunity to win the game for the Hammers, with it eventually coming down to the two goalkeepers. Despite a terrific display in the game from Joel Robles, his penalty hit the cross-bar, allowing his opposite number Adrian to send West Ham through to face Bristol City in the next round.
