Back in September 2013, the Daily Star reported that Tottenham Hotspur were among the clubs to have missed out on rising star Felipe Anderson.
The English paper published comments the player’s agent Stefano Castagna gave to Radio Mana Sport, in which he said of the newly-signed Lazio player, “Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Tottenham and rich Russian and Ukrainian clubs had moved for him, too.”
But having allegedly failed to sign the young Brazilian, Tottenham may be ruing the missed opportunity when they consider his recent form in Italy.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is in the midst of an outstanding run of form, scoring five goals and providing five assists in his last five Serie A appearances.
Add to that the recent goal he scored in the Coppa Italia and the former reported Tottenham target has scored or assisted 11 times in just six matches. Now that is a record worth writing home about.
With a contract until the summer of 2018, Anderson is unlikely to be on the move any time soon...certainly not unless it is an offer too good to refuse. But if he continues this fine form the great and the good of the game could be in for him once more.
Tottenham may well have missed the opportunity of signing a mercurial talent, but who knows what the future may bring...
