The Daily Express claims there is confusion over Tottenham’s reported interest in Fenerbahce striker Emmanuel Emenike.
Spurs have been tipped to add the forward to their squad before the end of this month but the player’s agent has confirmed that no offer has been made.
Therefore, it’s arguable that his agent is keener on a transfer to White Hart Lane and there are several reasons as to why Spurs should drop any interest they hold in the 27-year-old Nigerian.
The main one is that Tottenham should be aiming for a higher profile and higher quality of striker.
One of Mauricio Pochettino’s main aims will be to get the team into the Champions League by the end of the season and that makes it important for the side to attract a higher quality goalscorer who can come in and take some of the pressure off of Harry Kane over the second half of the season.
It’s doubtful whether Emenike is the sort of player who can spur Kane on and drive him to become a better player as opposed to a forward who could realistically take his place in the team, which would keep him on his toes.
Kane is the side’s in form attacking player but he can’t carry the team for the rest of the season on his own.
It’s also necessary to look at the quality of the Turkish league alongside the Premier League.
Emenike could struggle with the traditional elements of Premier League football (the pace and physical nature) which would leave him under immense pressure following a move from a lower quality division.
It’s also necessary to examine just how much the Nigerian wants any move to Spurs.
A lack of contact between Tottenham and Fenerbahce would suggest that he’s not pushing for any transfer which leads to questions over his motivation to play for Tottenham.
If Pochettino wants a striker before the end of the month to push his side on over the second half of the campaign, it shouldn’t be Emenike.
