Report: Spurs duo could be offered to Everton in return for James McCarthy

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

Younes Kaboul and Aaron Lennon could be used as makeweights in a move to bring James McCarthy to White Hart Lane, according to the Daily Mail.

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be interested in signing McCarthy, who has impressed in the heart of Everton's midfield, but all their attempts so far have been blocked.

The Toffees are apparently determined to keep hold of the Republic of Ireland international, who they feel is a vital component in their squad.

However, with Everton reportedly expressing an interest in both Lennon and Kaboul this month, Spurs could try to lure them into doing a deal by offering them the chance to sign the out-of-favour duo.

Spurs are keen on offloading Lennon and Kaboul, with the pair both falling down the pecking order, and they may have spotted an opportunity to do so while getting a player they are targeting in return.

McCarthy has been a virtual mainstay in the Everton side this season, but the Merseyside club's struggles could make a move away tempting.

The player appears to have all the fundamentals to fit into a Pochettino side - as he possesses large amounts of energy and technical ability - and if he were captured it would be an impressive addition from the London club.
