The 21-year-old has been with Braga since 2013, and is a rising star in Portuguese football - with three full international caps to his name.
He travelled to the 2014 World Cup with the Portuguese squad, and there was reported interest in him over the summer, with the Mirror suggesting that Premier League side Southampton could be looking to make a move for the ‘Portuguese Eden Hazard’ as a replacement for Liverpool-bound Adam Lallana.
No further action was taken on the interest, but it appears as if the Saints have returned to their summer target, and are preparing to make a January move for him.
As reported by A Bola, Silva is one of the prominent names being linked with a move to the South Coast of England, and the Saints would have to pay his release clause of €20 million to secure his services.
The Saints face competition from La Liga side Sevilla according to the report, and there is no indication whether the youngster would prefer a move to Spain over England.
Southampton had scouts in the crowd of the league game between Braga and Sporting CP on Sunday - as reported by A Bola - and it appears as if they were scouting their long-term target before making a concrete move for him.
At the same game, scouts from Manchester United, Everton, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Reading were also present, although there is yet no information regarding who was being scouted by any of the other Premier League sides.
