Spanish midfielder Carles Gil has signed for Aston Villa on a deal until June 2019, the Premier League club have confirmed on their official website.
Gil, 22, arrives at Villa from Valencia for a fee believed to be in the region of £3.25 million, and manager Paul Lambert believes the former Spain Under-21 international will add a much-needed creative spark to his side.
"We've been on the lookout for a creative player and he will certainly bring that extra element to the side," the Scot said.
"He's only 22 years of age but he will come here and give us something I don't think we have at the moment. He can play either role, coming in off the sides or playing in behind as well.
"He can create chances and get those chances put away. He has a lot to offer and I know we can get the best out of him."
Gil has struggled to break into Valencia's first-team this season, recording just one goal and one assist in 11 total appearances, but he did impress while on loan at La Liga rivals Elche during the previous two campaigns, where he lined up alongside Villa summer signing Carlos Sanchez.
With the club desperate for a creative number 10 for some time now, the promising Spaniard looks set to fill an important role in Lambert's side moving forward, and is excited about the chance of a fresh start in the Premier League.
"Once I knew that this club was interested in me I wanted to join," Gil said. "I am really looking forward to playing here and showing the fans what I can do.
"I can play on either side or in the middle of midfield and I like playing as part of the team, making things happen for my teammates.
"This is a very historic club in England, a very important club in the Premier League, and I am looking forward to playing for such a great club in a league that is the top league in the world."
