The Mexican forward netted the opener in Real Sociedad’s 1-1 draw with Granada yesterday.
Arsenal fans were divided over the treatment of Carlo Vela by the North London club, with the diminutive forward never really getting a chance to show what he was worth at the Emirates Stadium.
The 25-year-old was signed by Arsenal in 2005 and although he spent seven years on the North London club’s books, only featured in 29 Premier League games, scoring three goals.
The Mexican forward is now an essential member of David Moyes’ Real Sociedad squad and proved as much by scoring his side’s opener in the 1-1 away draw with Granada in La Liga yesterday.
As can be seen in the video above, Vela slotted home the spot-kick with aplomb in the 36th minute of the clash.
The goal was Vela’s seventh of the season, as he looks to replicate last term’s total of 16 La Liga goals.
Sociedad were denied their first away win under Moyes as Fran Rico scored a penalty of his own for Granada to see the spoils shared.
