Charlie Austin was forced to tread the play-off path with Queens Park Rangers and netted 20 times over the course of a campaign which ended with a memorable day out at Wembley.
The pair were expected to fare admirably among the top-flight elite, and both have justified their lofty billing.
Austin is the top scoring Englishman with 13 goals to his name, while Ings has managed six at Turf Moor.
They are both considered to be crucial to their respective cause and are reported to have drawn admiring glances from afar – with the Daily Mirror claiming that Ings is wanted by Southampton, Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion, while the Daily Mail has suggested that Arsenal are among those looking at Austin.
Any interested parties will have been sure to catch a glimpse of the pair in direct competition on Saturday, with Burnley playing host to fellow strugglers QPR.
|Team||Match||Goals||Total Scoring Att||Ontarget Scoring Att||Big Chance Created||Duel Won||Touches||Mins Played|
|Charlie Austin||QPR||Burnley vs QPR||1||4||2||0||5||33||90|
|Danny Ings||Burnley||Burnley vs QPR||1||4||1||1||5||36||90|
The Opta statistics above show that there is little to choose between the highly-rated duo.
Both found the target at Turf Moor, with Ings having the last laugh as his well-taken strike helped the Clarets to a much-needed 2-1 victory.
They were able to show again, though, that they have the ability to both create and take chances, while offering a physical threat which allows them to hold their own against no-nonsense defenders.
