Chelsea welcome back one of their most talented prospects in Jeremie Boga on Tuesday night when they face Huddersfield Town in the FA Youth Cup.
The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who has scored 11 goals in 15 games in all competitions this season, should make his first appearance in a little over two weeks, following a knee injury, in the game against Huddersfield, according to the Chelsea official website. However, debate over his immediate future will no doubt continue, at least until the end of the January and loan transfer window.
As one of Chelsea’s top young players, the management of player development at the West London club are unsurprisingly unwilling to make any decision that could end up leading to a negative reaction in his progression.
Nevertheless, with him proving himself more than capable at all tested levels in the past 6 months, a loan move to a Championship club may be the next logical step.
Last season, West London Sport via the Sun, reported the interest from Championship trio Birmingham City, Bolton and Charlton Athletic to take the attacker on loan. However, nothing was ever agreed so no deal materialised.
Now, one year later in his development, it could be argued that it’s the perfect chance for Chelsea to make Boga available to Championship clubs and see which ones are willing to take a chance on the Blues star.
The move would likely add a maturity to the player's game and if he is able to get a club in the Championship that plays to a similar style to Chelsea, it would go a long way in making him a more viable option for the first team next season if he impresses.
