Nintendo sponsoring Super Smash Bros. tournament

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Screen 12

Nintendo take a different approach to Super Smash competitions this year.

An announcement on Friday reveals that Nintendo have signed a sponsorship deal for Apex 2015.

Apex 2015 is a three-day pro-gaming tournament that will host competitions for each of the four games in the Super Smash Bros. series; Super Smash Bros on N64, Super Smash Bros Melee on GameCube, Super Smash Bros Brawl on Wii, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Previously Nintendo had tried to stop Super Smash Bros Melee from being part of the Evo 2013 tournament, so this is quite the 180 degree turn for the company.

Other fighting game competitions will be held at the event for games such as Ultra Street Fighter 4, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and Guilty Gear Xrd.

More details on the event can be found on the official website.
