A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has revealed he spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson regarding a possible move to Manchester United.

The Manchester Evening News has published comments Nasri gave during an interview to BeIn Sports, in which he said, “We met with Sir Alex in Paris, in a hidden place, out of sight, so as not to fuel the rumours.”

Ultimately, however, the Frenchman swapped Arsenal for City, leaving United to look elsewhere for new creative midfielders.

In other news, United are reportedly closing in on a £25million move for Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte.

The Daily Star cites reports from Spain for the latest story, with United in desperate need of defensive reinforcements.

United are yet to sufficiently replace the departed Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, but at just 20, would Laporte really be the answer?

United already have a number of young defenders in their ranks and surely if manager Louis van Gaal did make a move for a new one it would be someone with considerably more experience in the game.
